The Chicago Humanities Festival connects people to the ideas that shape and define us, and promotes the lifelong exploration of what it means to be human. CHF fosters curiosity, celebrates creativity, explores the boundaries of contemporary knowledge and culture, and challenges us to see ourselves and the world anew.
We produce more than 140 programs annually, reaching a live audience of nearly 50,000 adults and 12,000+ youth (primarily from Chicago Public Schools). Since inception, we have presented over 3,000 outstanding speakers, including: 10 Nobel Laureates; 73 Pulitzer Prize winners; 56 MacArthur “Genius” Fellows; 34 Academy Award, Tony, and Grammy winners; and 18 James Beard Award winners. 2018 Chicago Humanities Festival | Graphic! Fallfest Dates: October 27 – November 11
CHF is seeking part-time seasonal House Managers to oversee front of house operations and supervise teams of volunteers for our annual Fallfest. These positions require both weekday/night and weekend availability during festival dates, as well as the availability to attend both a pre-festival training session and venue walk-through. Hours are dependent on the needs of assigned program(s). Pay is competitive.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
-Provide the highest level of customer service to people of all ages and abilities
-Attend a training session and visit assigned venue(s) prior to the Festiva
-Train, supervise, and assist volunteers
-Set up ticket scanner technology, signage, house materials
-Manage festival crowds in primarily general admission venues
-Work collaboratively with stage manager and box office manager to coordinate event operations
-Oversee accessible seating
-Lead audience Q&A after each event in your venue
-Complete post-program reporting and evaluatio
-Other duties as assigned
Applicants must possess
-A professional demeanor with excellent communication skills
-Flexibility, resourcefulness, and assertiveness in problem solving
-High energy, a positive personality, and grace under pressure
-The ability to lead and work as part of a team
-The ideal candidate will have previous house management experience
Helpful, though not required
-Familiarity with Chicago cultural venues
-Training in disability awareness, CPR, or American Sign Language
-Conversational Spanish a plus
